Take a look at some of our older wishes
Being diagnosed with terminal cancer and moving into palliative care after ending chemotherapy treatment, Allan wanted to create some special memories with and for his two young children.

After contacting us, we arranged for them to have a short break at the Haven Hafan-y-mor holiday park during the Easter break.

Whilst Allan was quite weak due to his illness, this did not stop him from having a great time with his children, watching them play together having fun – a brief respite from the reality of the situation.

We were really pleased that the family had the opportunity to spend quality time together, creating the special memories which will be so precious in the years to come.

A Special Message

Stephen had always been a huge fan of motorcycle racing, owning a number of bikes himself, and his favourite personality from this sport was Carl Fogarty MBE. He followed his career and would watch him whenever he could. Being a keen cyclist, it came as a bitter blow when he was diagnosed with bowel cancer and had to give up the hobby he loved. Although he battled as much as possible, the illness left him weak and when his family approached us to help with a wish, he was entering the last stages of life.

The family’s wish for Steve was to receive a video message from Carl. This message was written by the family for Carl to read and relayed how proud the family were of him for the courage shown throughout his illness.

We managed to contact Carl through his management team who was more than happy to complete the video for Steve. This was then forwarded to the family who fed back how overwhelmed and emotional Steve was to receive it.

Shortly after receiving this video, and a couple of weeks after his 33rd wedding anniversary, Steve sadly passed away.
Multiple Sclerosis had left Romy wheelchair dependent and isolated. She often is unable to leave the house for long periods of time and is in constant pain. Her 60th birthday was approaching, and she wanted to celebrate this in style, forgetting about the deterioration in her health and pain for a short while.

Romy contacted us and let us know her dearest wish would be to enjoy afternoon tea with her close friend at the Savoy Hotel, London. If we could arrange this for her, she would take her ‘60’ candle and put this in one of the cakes provided at the Afternoon Tea.

How could we refuse such a request?
A date was duly organised, and Romy spent a very special afternoon with her friend being pampered and treated like a queen. We were happy to be able to grant this wish for Romy which gave her such happiness and celebrated her 60th in style.

Travelling in Style

After being diagnosed with cancer, Graham contacted us to see if we could help him fulfil one of his bucket list items. Being a steam train enthusiast, he had always wanted to treat himself and his wife to a trip on the elegant Orient Express. We were able to give him the equivalent by organising an afternoon to remember on the Belmond British Pullman.
On 2nd November 2018, Graham and his wife, Fiona were formally welcomed onto the train at London Victoria Station for the ‘Golden Age of Travel’ experience, after being greeted by a Jazz Band playing on the platform.
Once escorted to their seats, Graham and Fiona settled in for the journey in their plush surroundings of veneered art deco panels, plush armchairs, tables set with linen, silver and crystal and the Kent countryside as their view.
After enjoying a glass of champagne, the couple were then treated to a delectable five-course meal with half a bottle of wine. Additionally, part way through the journey, the train stopped at Broadstairs to enable the passengers to sample free oysters.
Some 5 hours after boarding the train, Graham and Fiona arrived back at London Victoria – throughout the day Graham kept us up to date of the journey with photographs to accompany the messages. His final message of the day to us summed up the experience:
“Thanking you ALL at The HoneyRose Foundation for making my SPECIAL day so memorable, it was truly WONDERFUL, bright sunshine all day to give me such a tremendous boost making me totally forget about all my problems and I returned home fully refreshed and ready to face the challenges ahead. Many many sincere thanks to you all making it happen for me. I cannot believe it's all over now, but I still have my beautiful memories and photos of the day”

Knowing that his wife Tracy had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, Simon contacted us to see if we could make her life long dream come true – a meet and greet with the Manchester City team and in particular Sergio Augero. She was a proud supporter, season ticket holder and attended as many matches as possible. Tracy’s illness however soon took hold and she became too poorly to continue this routine, which was replaced with another – regular hospital appointments and treatment in an attempt to stem the symptoms.
Growing weaker and more disheartened, Tracy was delighted when we informed her and Simon that we had arranged for her to achieve her wish. So, in October 2018, they both travelled from their home in Huddersfield to the Etihad Campus for what proved to be a thrilling day out.
Not only did Tracy meet Sergio and spend time chatting with him, she also spoke with other members of the team and was invited to attend an upcoming match pitch side by Club Ambassador Mike Summerbee.
As the day drew to a close and Tracy and Simon were preparing to leave, Tracy was presented with a replica shirt signed by Augero – the ultimate end to a fantastic day!
Afterwards, Simon informed us that “The experience was beyond anything I could ever have dreamt for Tracy. I merely asked for two minutes of Sergio’s time and what has happened today and the experience we have had simply went far beyond anything I could have ever have contemplated.”

A ‘Premier’ Day Out

Satisfying the Need for Speed

Terminally ill Peter dreamt of having a high-speed experience in a Formula 1 simulator. He wanted an adrenalin rush, and we thought we’d try to organise ‘one better’ than a simulator and offer a ‘real’ Formula 1 experience. So, we set about contacting Silverstone to see if they could help.
As a result, towards the end of 2018 Peter, his wife and 2 friends spent the day at the track. Whilst it was not possible to drive a Formula 1 car, Peter experienced the next best thing – 4 laps in a Ferrari with an instructor at the wheel. Peter kindly let his friend enjoy a few laps around the track too, as a thank you for helping us make his dream come true.
Peter, his wife and friends then rounded off the day with an overnight stay in a local hotel. Afterwards, Peter told us he had had a ‘brilliant day’ and that the experience was more than he could ever have expected.

Valentine’s Day 2018 took on special significance for one family from Billinge when they took a magical trip to London. Jennifer Moss was diagnosed in January 2015 with bowel cancer, for which she had received ongoing treatment. However, in 2016 her condition had developed and then, in October 2017, she was diagnosed with Metastitic Adenocarcinoma of the bowel with liver and peritoneal metastases. This, she was advised, was terminal although life expectancy was uncertain. Aware of her situation, Jennifer wanted to do something special with her husband. Being the mum of four children, they had always come first and Jennifer felt that, under the circumstances, she could put herself and husband Michael first for a change. Whilst on Facebook Jennifer came across our page and, on further investigation, discovered that we granted wishes to adults suffering from life-threatening or terminal illnesses. A lifelong dream of Jennifer’s was to visit London and see some of the sights she had only seen on television or in newspapers and magazines. So, having contacted the us, on February 14th Jennifer and Michael took off by train to spend two full days exploring the capital. As well as arranging the train journey we provided the couple with hotel accommodation and a London Pass. This is a ticket giving free entry to over 80 attractions across the city including St Pauls Cathedral, a Thames river cruise, the Tower of London and many other major attractions. On returning to Billinge, Jennifer was over the moon with the experience and was so grateful to HoneyRose Foundation for arranging it all for them.
